A Look Back: When Penny Torched The Heat

After losing the first two games of their 1997 first round playoff series with the Miami Heat, Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway led the Magic to a 88-75 win over the Heat to cut the best-of-five series lead to 2-1.

Hardaway had 42 points on 16-of-30 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds.

Hardaway had a 41-point game in game 4, while leading the Magic to a 99-91 victory.

Hardaway scored 33 points in game 5 but the Magic fell to the Heat 91-83.

For the series, Hardaway averaged 31.0 points per game, posted an effective field percentage of 51.8%, a true shooting percentage of 57.5% and a PER of 29.9

Today is Hardaway’s 40th birthday.
