As you all know, Smith is a very active and hands on general manager so this has to be a difficult time for him.
No one knows how long the lockout will last. But if a season can be salvaged, Smith must hit the ground running as teams scramble to sign or trade players.
“All you can do now is plan, plan, plan. But it’s even kind of hard to plan. You don’t know what the new rules will look like,” Smith said, referring to the next collective bargaining agreement.
Smith still comes into his office every workday, tending more to administrative duties. “Lot of housekeeping. There’s little things that you sometimes don’t have time to do during the season,” he said.
