The Lockout Is Over

Ken Berger of CBS Sports was the first one to report the agreement:

BREAKING: Tentative agreement reached, according to one of the negotiators. #NBA #lockout

Officials from both sides will address media jointly in conference room of Manhattan law office momentarily.

Agreement will be followed reforming of the union, which must be recognized by the owners — a formality, pending finalization of details.

Stern: We’ve reached a tentative understanding.

Stern: We’re optimistic that it will hold and we’ll have ourselves an NBA season

Hunter: We’re going to turn it all over to the lawyers … and see how that proceeds.

Silver says deal will largely prevent the high-spending teams from competing in the free-agent market like they have in the past.

Stern: If all goes smoothly, training camps will open Dec. 9. Season will be 66 game beginning on Christmas.

Adrian Wojnarowski added a few details:

The players will have to reform the union, and the 450-plus players will still have to ratify a deal to make it official.

Still a tricky list of B-list of deal points, including drug testing, early entry draft age, D-League assginments that must be agreed on.

Larry Coon also weighed in:

So here’s what needs to happen: 1) They need to finish all the B-level issues. 2) Both sides need to vote on the deal. 3) Teams will open

…their doors, allow players in, start talking to free agents. 4) When deal is signed (abt 2 weeks) they can start signing & trading

Currently, the Magic are scheduled to take on the Houston Rockets December 26.
