Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel says he’s “hearing whispers that Mike D’Antoni would be very interested in a vacant Magic coaching job.”

Before anyone flips out, let’s go over a few things.

For one, current Head Coach Stan Van Gundy had not been fired yet.

Also, why wouldn’t D’Antoni, a coach who recently “resigned” be interested in this job? Why would he not be interested in any job?

D’Antoni has been the head coach of the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks. In 10 years as a head man, he’s compiled a record of 388-339  (.533), has made the playoffs five times with a career playoff record of 26-29 (.473) and twice led the Suns to the conference finals (in 2005 and 2006).

D’Antoni resigned as Knicks coach on March 14. The Knicks were 18-24 at that time.
