Dwight “Howard Regrets Forgoing His Early Termination Option”

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo, Dwight Howard regrets waiving his early termination option and wants to be traded before the season starts.

Wojnarowski specifically says “Howard regrets forgoing his early termination option on his 2012-13 contract, sources said, and wants a trade before next season.”

It’s also intriguing that Wojnarowski says Howard trade proposals are part of the interview process when it comes to the next Magic general manager. Wojnarowski says “Several of the potential GM candidates in Orlando have already been devising trade scenarios for Howard and plan to propose those ideas to Orlando president Alex Martins in the interview process.”

Most pundits and those closer to the team, including myself, still believe Howard winds up in Brooklyn, the only place he really appears to want to be.

What’s interesting about this story is that a league source told Wojnarowski “It’s Dwight Howard or bust” when it comes to keeping Deron Williams. However, now that Brook Lopez is a restricted free agent and the Nets will more than likely wind up without a pick in this year’s draft lottery, a deal looks more one-sided now than ever before.

Of course, that could all change if the Nets have some lottery luck and get a top 3 pick. If they don’t, Portland will receive their pick as part of last season’s deal that sent Gerald Wallace to the Nets.

If the Nets do wind up with the top pick, that makes things a lot easier. The Magic would then presumably be able to deal Howard and get the likely number one pick in Kentucky’s Anthony Davis and maybe some younger prospects like rookie wing MarShon Brooks, who averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in his first season.

The lottery is tonight at 8:00 pm EST.

Trade him and move on. He doesn’t want to be here. If you’re willing to let a star player control management hires and team additions and he still wants to leave, he doesn’t want to be there. Sucks for us, but oh well. Rebuild the right way, through young pieces.

I’m hoping the Nets win the lottery tonight. If they do, I could definitely see a package around the #1 pick with Brooks Lopez / Kris Humphries for Dwight and someone. Rebuild around Davis and you have the cap room to add anyone you want in a couple of years.

Lopez and Hump are FAs, but I could see something like Marshon Brooks/Davis/future first for Howard
