According to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, the Magic are considering at least four coaches for their vacant head coaching spot.
Those candidates are current Warriors assistant Michael Malone, current Pacers assistant Brian Shaw, current Lakers assistant Quin Snyder and former Magic point guard Jacque Vaughn.
Robbins says general manager Rob Hennigan “likely will conduct first-round interviews with Malone, Shaw, Snyder and Vaughn over the next week.
Malone and Shaw’s names have been connected with the Magic since before Stan Van Gundy was fired.
Malone is the son of former Magic assistant Brendan Malone and is considered one of the real up-and-comers in the leauge.
Shaw was once a Magic point guard before winning multiple titles as both a player and and assistant coach with the Lakers. It is believe Orlando’s ownership prefers Shaw, but through their actions, the Magic have made it clear the decision will be Hennigan’s.
Quin Snyder is currently a Lakers assitant, was previously an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers and was once coach of the NBADL’s Austin Torros. Snyder also was head coach of the Missouri Tigers and learned under Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski where he was an assistant from 1993 to 1999. Before that, he was an assitant under Larry Brown with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Vaughn has been a Spurs assistant for the last two seasons after a 12-year NBA career.
