Cavaliers "May Have Inched Ahead" Of Rockets

The Houston Rockets are assumed to have the best package in the chase for Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.

However, ESPN’s Ric Bucher says the “Cleveland Cavaliers may have inched ahead of the Houston Rockets as a facilitator in a potential trade that would send Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, sources said Wednesday”

The Cavaliers would give up a package of draft picks and big man Anderson Varejao, getting Lakers center Andrew Bynum in return.

Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant has added fuel to the fire by unexpectedly leaving Cleveland’s summer league team in Las Vegas to return to Cleveland.

I’m not sure I’d believe anything Ric Bucjer says at this point. Just last week he said that Dwight Howard would be a Brooklyn Net soon and he was 85% sure of that. Then, come to find out, the Nets/Magic were never even close on any sort of deal for Howard.

I dont think Cleveland can get ahead of Houston in this deal because Houston will deal for either Howard or Bynum (more likely in a 3way deal) without any assurances of a long term deal. Cleveland and crazy owner Dan Gilbert want assurances ahead of time before completing the trade.
