Despite all of the reports of Dwight Howard‘s imminent departure, the Orlando Magic still believe they can convince Howard to stay with the team long term.
Howard’s displeasure with the organization is obvious but the Magic believe that with a new general manager, front office staff and a new head coach, they can change his mind.
Per Alex Kennedy of Hoops World, Magic general manager Rob Hennigan and his staff will fly to Los Angeles to visit Howard in the coming days. Kennedy says “Hennigan is determined to fix the strained relationship between the player and the organization, and he’s hopeful that Howard will resume his career in Orlando.”
Kennedy adds that Orlando’s next coach, who most believe to be current San Antonio Spurs assistant Jacque Vaughn, will likely travel with Hennigan to meet with Howard, who has “has agreed to meet” with the team.
The Magic will then present a plan to Howard. Kennedy says “sources within the organization are optimistic that they can change his stance with this pitch.”
