During Jacque Vaughn‘s introductory press conference, Magic forward/center Glen “Big Baby” Davisjoined the collected media to see what Vaughn had to say.
During the press, Vaughn told reporters he hadn’t met with any Magic players yet, meaning Davis became the first to do so.
After their meeting, Davis told Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel Vaughn said he was “just making sure that you’re ready. You’re going to have the opportunity to be a contributor here. You’re going to have the opportunity to do big things, and you just be ready, making sure that you come in [to training camp Oct. 1] the right way, in the right shape, and just holding me accountable.”
Davis said he was impressed with Vaughn, calling him a “wonderful guy” and a “thirsty dog.”
Davis, who had a season to forget a year ago, showed improvement at center in the postseason, upping his season averaged from 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game to 19.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in Dwight Howard‘s absence. Davis shot only 43.8% from the field in the playoffs, but that was up from the 42.1% he shot during the regular season. Davis is under contract for three more seasons.
