The Orlando Magic announced they have re-signed point guard Ishmael Smith Wednesday.
Smith becomes the 16th player on Orlando’s roster, but only the second point guard (Jameer Nelson).
Smith averaged 2.3 points, 1.6 assists and 1.3 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game for the Magic last season. He also spent time with the Golden State Warriors.
“I’ve been in the gym a lot working out and working hard,” Smith told John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com. “Obviously I worked with Coach Malone last year the whole season and I’ve tried to carry that over to the summer. I’ve worked this summer with one of the best shooters to ever play in the NBA in Coach Price, and I’ve seen a lot of improvement. So I’ve been blessed.”
With 16 players on the roster, there is speculation big man Josh McRoberts, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Dwight Howard trade, will be the odd man out.
