NBA Trade Rumors: Interest In Orlando Magic's J.J. Redick Remains High Despite Assurance of Not Being Shopped

J.J. Redick is Orlando’s best trade chip, and that’s really pretty indisputable. He’s drawn interest from a number of NBA teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz.

But Redick told Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel that the Magic told him they are not “actively shopping him.”

That assurance means very little in a business which guarantees nothing. Redick and his wife have stated their desires to remain in central Florida, and Redick has been a fan favorite in Orlando since joining the Magic as a lottery pick out of Duke.

But it’s hard to believe that Rob Hennigan would turn down any deal for Redick that brought in young talent on a rookie contract (Hennigan stated this is what he wants) and/or draft picks. Hennigan’s assurance to Redick that he isn’t being actively shopped means that he’s playing it cool and letting other teams do the work.

He’s not building blisters on his finger tips working the phone lines, but rest assured he’s picking up his cell every time it rings.

Redick’s expiring contract and the fact he is having a career year make him a valuable commodity, but Marc Stein of ESPN reported via Twitter that teams such as the Milwaukee Bucks are unlikely to shell out much for the 2-guards services without assurance he would remain in town.

That’s certainly understandable of a fringe playoff team like the Bucks, but true contenders certainly could turn to Redick for a half-season rental if they felt he was the missing piece in a possible championship.

That’s what makes a trade to the Pacers or Bulls more likely than Redick matriculating to a team which can’t win a title this year.
