Usain Bolt is the fastest homo sapien in the history of the species, but the question we all want to know is how he can translate that immense athleticism to playing the game of basketball.
I’d wondered if the 6’6″ Bolt could dunk. It seemed almost impossible to consider that such an athlete couldn’t throw it down on a 10-foot goal, given the fact that an out of shape white guy like myself still can dunk a little even at age 31 and a height of just 6’3″
To answer my own question: Yes, Bolt can throw it down nearly as well as any non-basketball player we’ve seen. While Bolt will likely be taking it easy in the game to avoid a serious injury that could impact his track and field career, expect to see at least one of these windmill dunks that he performed in the Boston Garden before a crowd of very excited onlookers.
Watching the Jamaican run the break may be something special to see. Let’s just hope Dikembe Mutombo isn’t there to swat his attempt away and finger wag him. Actually, no, that may be absolute hilarious material and fodder for ESPN and sports talk radio for years.
Here’s a video of Bolt’s dunk:
