Earlier this week the NBA announced their revival of all-access program NBA Inside Stuff. This time around, the recently retired Grant Hill and Atlanta radio host Kristen Ledlow will host the 30-minute show airing Saturdays at noon on NBA TV starting November 2nd. The new Inside Stuff will look a lot like the old Inside Stuff, which aired from 1990 to 2005, with updated versions of the highlight segment “Jam Session” and NBA recap called “Rewind.”
Unfortunately, there will be no Ahmad Rashad this time around. Which is a shame. But beggars can’t be choosers, I guess.
The announcement of NBA Inside Stuff coming back gave me enough of an excuse to fire up the YouTube and waste some time watching the old segments. After a while I started to get suspicious of how everyone was Ahmad Rashad’s “main man.” How many main men can there be? But the dude just seemed effortlessly cool. And the show epitomized 90’s NBA. The wardrobe, hair, graphics and music were tremendously cheesy.
My only concern for the new version is if Grant Hill can fit the role that Rashad had on the old NBA Inside Stuff. Ahmad’s talent is what made the old show truly special and I’m not sure if Hill can provide the same vibe. Former players don’t have the best track record as on-air personalities, but if Hill can keep from looking too rigid or scripted on camera, then he’ll do a fine job.
Here’s a pretty cool interview of Penny Hardaway on NBA Inside Stuff when he was a rookie. Oh, what could have been.
