Orlando Magic vs. Houston Rockets Recap

The Orlando Magic were unable to get a winning streak going and thus dropped to 1-3 in the preseason losing to the Houston Rockets 108-104 on Wednesday.

This game was pretty much over at half time as the Houston Rockets head coach Kevin McHale pulled stars Dwight Howard and James Harden. The Magic had its worst outing of the preseason as most of the Magic players struggled shooting from the field.

The Magic were particularly dreadful from the 3-point line and were 6-0f-27 from long distance. Victor Oladipo had his worst game so far and for the first time looked a rookie. Oladipo struggled with his jump shot and only shot 25 percent on 3-of-12 shooting for the Magic. The Magic also struggled on defense  when it came to guarding the perimeter. Harden torched the Magic defense and was able to get into the paint with ease and finished with a game-high 21 points at half time.

Despite the fact that Orlando Magic head coach Jacque Vaughn has plenty to work on, there are several positive aspects the Magic can take from this game. Magic center Nikola Vucevic showcased his improved post defense against Dwight Howard. Vucevic was able to force Howard into making his post move before he wanted to, resulting in Howard having to force up difficult shots. The reigning Magic center, Vucevic, even blocked Howard’s first shot of the game.

Power forward Andrew Nicholson continued to showcase his increased shooting range and was 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and finished with a team-high 15 points.

Magic forward Tobias Harris did not play due to an ankle injury. The Orlando Magic will return home  Friday where they will face the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 p.m. Coverage of the game can be heard on the radio at ESPN 580 Orlando. The game will not be televised locally.
