Multiple sources have reported that the Los Angeles Clippers will sign former Orlando Magic Hedo Turkoglu pending the results of a physical. The Magic released Turkoglu January 3rd after failing to find a willing trade partner in a move that saved the team $6 million.
Hidayet Türkoğlu is in LA. Pending a physical, he will sign a contract with Clippers until the end of this season.

The Clippers are currently dealing with an injury to all-star point guard Chris Paul and a lack of depth along their front line. While this move doesn’t directly address either of those concerns, it does split the difference. Turkoglu is an adept second ball handler, capable of initiating the offense from a point-forward role. He may be able to play some small-ball power forward, but not against the Western Conference’s elite teams. The Clippers will have to turn elsewhere for a reliable back-up big man, keeping them in the running to sign the recently released Andrew Bynum.
It’s not clear how much Turkoglu has left in the tank. He hasn’t played at all this season, after only suiting up for 11 games last year. The Magic asked him to stay away from this year’s squad as they worked to trade the 34 year old veteran. He fell out of favor with the team after a suspension stemming from failing a drug test for anabolic steroids. The fromer fan favorite didn’t fit on team’s young rebuilding roster. He has career averages of 11.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
