Glen Davis is public enemy #1 in Orlando. The Magic have been trying to trade him for months, but his inefficient play and off the court antics make that almost impossible. Acquired in a trade with the Boston Celtics for Brandon Bass in 2011, Davis hasn’t developed into the low post threat the Magic wanted. Now they’re looking to trade him to escape from the last year and a half of his contract (which pays him $6.6 million a year) but finding that the league hates him just about as much as they do.
According Steve Kyler of basketballinsiders.com no one in the league is interested: “I have not heard anyone mention Big Baby as a player they would like to acquire … would not expect a Davis trade unless it involved packing a Mo Harkless or an Andrew Nicholson to make it happen.”
While that is disappointing news for Magic fans, it’s not surprising. Davis is 28 years old with averages of 13.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He’s also shooting a disappointing 45.4% from the floor. And defense? It’s almost unmentionable. Including a young prospect in a Davis deal would defeat the whole purpose. It’s just not happening. The Magic have given Davis 27 starts this season hoping to inflate his trade value but it hasn’t worked. The league is smart enough to know what bad numbers on a bad team mean.
Complicating any trade is Davis’ off the court problems. In October, Davis reached over a counter in a motel and destroyed a keyboard at 4:00 o’clock in the morning. Talk about Big Baby. We’ll let you make you’re own conclusions from there. But just in case you need a little reminder, here’s the video of the incident:
