Victor Oladipo has been chosen to play in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge at the 2014 NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, LA. The announcement doesn’t come as a surprise, as Oladipo has been one of the best rookies in the NBA this season. Unfortunately, no other Orlando Magic was chosen to participate. Andrew Nicholson, Maaurice Harkless, and Kyle O’Quinn were all eligible sophomores who weren’t chosen.
Splitting time between point guard and shooting guard or depot is averaged 13.9 ppg., 4.5 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.57 stlpg, in 32.0 minpg. Among rookies he is 2nd in scoring, 4th rebounding, 3rd in assists, 2nd in steals, 5th in blocked shots, and 2nd in minutes played. The specific teams will be chosen in a draft between TNT personalities Chris Webber and Reggie Miller.
Hopefully that won’t be the only Orlando Magic presence that weekend. Arron Afflalo is hoping to make the All-Star game as a reserve and Victor Oldapio also wants to participate in the slam dunk contest. For a young team like Orlando, it is still disappointing that they only have one player in the Rising Stars Challenge.
The Rising Stars Challenge is Friday, February 14 at 9 pm ET will be nationally televised by TNT.
