The 2014 NBA draft features one of the deepest classes in recent years.
The Orlando Magic currently have the 2nd worst record in the NBA and will most likely be drafting in the lottery this season. One of the positions that the Magic are looking to improve is at the point guard position. Australian high school basketball standout Dante Exum is expected to be one of the most coveted guards in the upcoming draft.
Exum is in a unique situation in that he has the ability to influence which team drafts him as a foreign player. He can sign with a team overseas, if he is drafted by a team that doesn’t fit his interests.
The 19-year-old, wants to start alongside Kobe Bryant on the Los Angeles Lakers. Adding to Exum’s interest in the Lakers, is that he now has the same representation as Bryant in Rob Pelinka.
It’s not all bad news for the Magic. Exum wants to make an immediate contribution to the team that selects him. In addition to the Lakers, Exum also mentioned that he wouldn’t mind being drafted by the Magic.
Exum wants to play alongside current Magic rookie Victor Oladipo in order to alleviate some of the issues Oladipo has had with the point guard duties.
If Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan sees Exum as the best player available, the possible threat of Europe, won’t factor into the decision making process as all.
