After an almost silent start to February, the Orlando Magic trade rumors have begun to fly the day before the trade deadline. It’s hard to separate fact from fiction, and anything that we are hearing is probably already dead, but the rumors do give us an insight into the team’s thought process as they enter the next stage in their rebuilding efforts. Check out the latest rumors below:
1. The Magic want two first round picks for Arron Afflalo
ESPN’s Chad Ford mentioned this as the sort of severe price the Magic are looking for in return for Afflalo, but it’s not as absurd as it seems at first glance. The first round picks in discussion wouldn’t be in the lottery and the odds are against those selections developing into better players than Afflalo.
2. Minnesota Timberwolves target Jameer Nelson
This trade is contingent on the Wolves dumping the disappointing JJ Barea in a deal with the Grizzlies. Minnesota doesn’t have a lot to offer but there are some intriguing low-ceiling young guys in play.
3. Charlotte Bobcats want Arron Afflalo, willing to take on bad contracts
You’re long awaited Glen Davis trade Magic fans! The problem with dumping Davis on the Bobcats is that it would weaken what they could ask for in return. The Magic don’t need the cap space, and would be better served getting another piece that could help their rebuild
4. Arron Afflalo is Maybe/Definitely/Not at all on the block
You have to love the trade deadline rumor mill. Various sources have said that Orlando is either looking to trade Afflalo or will not even consider it. The only truth is that there is a “smokescreen” involved, ad the only questions is what its hiding.
