After failing to make the team out of preseason this year, Romero Osby will be back with the Orlando Magic for the Orlando Pro Summer League. Osby tweeted out a video and a message from Instagram announcing he would be joining the team once again this summer.
“Proud to announce I will be back with the Orlando Magic for the Orlando NBA Summer League and hopefully further! Thankful for everyone that has supported me throughout my recovery and even though I’m not 100% I’m blessed to say I’m on my way there. Also thanks to the fans of O-town for reaching out to me and supporting me even though I wasn’t with their team. See you in July O-town! #ToGodBeTheGlory #ReturnofRoe #NBASummerLeague #GratefulForThisOppurtunity #RoadToRecovery”
Osby, a 6’8” combo forward out of Oklahoma, was selected with the 51st selection in the 2013 NBA Draft. Following the draft, Osby joined the team’s Summer League squad, where he played five games, averaging 11 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Despite his fine showing in Summer League, Osby failed to make the roster out of training camp, as the team chose to keep big man Solomon Jones instead.
Upon being waived, Osby’s rights where traded for by the Maine Red Claws in the NBA Developmental League. Osby was rumored to be poised for a call up to the Boston Celtics, but went down with a shoulder injury which cost him the remainder of the season. In 12 games with the Red Claws, Osby averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists on 44.7 percent from the field and 42.2 percent from three.
Osby will be joined by guard Victor Oladipo, who said he will participate in the Summer League for the second straight season. However, it is unlikely Oladipo will play in all of the games. The remainder of the Magic’s Summer League team will be announced at a later date.
