Orlando Magic Today: Hump Day

Good morning loyal readers! It’s Wednesday, so we’re halfway through our long work weeks. Almost there guys, hang in there.

In surprising news, Detroit Pistons big man Greg Monroe, chose to sign the qualifying offer with the team. At SB Nation, Kevin Zimmerman took a look at that, and gave you some good information on how many people have done this before, some team’s that reported interest in Monroe this summer, and how this could effect him in the long run.

Over at OrlandoMagic.Com, John Denton took a look at Elfrid Payton and how he impressed a former first round point guard who also came from a smaller school. Portland’s Damian Lillard has been in Payton’s corner since before the draft, and continues to rave about the defensive minded guard from Louisiana-Lafayette.

Just before the draft, Lillard had this to say in a Twitter post: “Don’t sleep on Elfrid Payton … I watched a couple of his games. He can hoop.’’ Recently, during USA Basketball practices, Lillard had this to say about the Magic’s rookie point guard:

“In Elfrid I saw a player with great size and length and how he played the game. He defended and made plays and scored when he needed to,’’ Lillard said. “When I sat back and watched him play, I just said to myself, `Wow, that’s a NBA player.’ A lot of times you can’t see that in college players. Some of them have all of the hype, but you just can’t see pro potential in them. But with Elfrid, I knew he would be good at the NBA level.’’

MagicBasketballOnline’s Adam Papageorgiou did some investigative work and found something interesting that might bring former Magic swingman Corey Maggette back to The City Beautiful for training camp.

Last, but certainly not least, our very own Cory Hutson did some work with comparing plays and how Channing Frye would’ve made a difference compared to Glen Davis.

That does it for Wednesday’s version of Orlando Magic Today! Check back tomorrow morning to get your latest Magic updates, and don’t forget to check back with Presto in the Paint for all your analysis, news, features and more regarding the Magic!
