Orlando Magic Today: Thirsty Thursday

Good morning, Magic fans! Hope everyone had a wonderful hump day and I hope you’re ready to power through the last two days before the weekend. It’s almost here, I promise.

To kick things off today, the NBA Schedule was released yesterday! You can find all of the Magic’s game on their website here, and you can also find it on Presto in the Paint by clicking on the “Orlando Magic Schedule” tab on out home page.

Schedule aside, our friend Evan Dunlap, the editor of SB Nation’s Orlando Pinstriped Post, took a look at how the Magic could look this time next year, and how they have some tough decisions to make with the likes of Nikola Vucevic, Tobias Harris and Kyle O’Quinn all being up for new contracts next summer.

Though Vučević has proven his worth as an elite rebounder and an emerging offensive threat, it’s fair to question whether he’s a foundational player. The young center will receive a hefty payday regardless, as all productive young bigs do, but paying him for the sake of paying him could have dramatically negative consequences on Hennigan’s ability to maintain the team’s salary-cap flexibility moving forward.

Harris, a versatile combo forward with excellent off-the-dribble scoring instincts, won’t earn as much money as Vučević does, but he adds plenty of value to a team in need of offensive firepower. Curiously, he has yet to nail down a starting job in Orlando, and we’ll know more about his future with the team as the 2014/15 season progresses. At present, he looks dangerously close to expendable, given the presence of Maurice Harkless and rookie Aaron Gordon on the roster.

Back at OrlandoMagicDaily, Phillip Rossman-Reich took a look at Nikola Vucevic and his great rebounding ability. Vucevic has been near the top of the league in rebounds per-game the last two seasons, and Rossman-Reich gives some good insight into why.

Finally, at MagicBasketball.net, my friend Scott Rafferty took a look at Channing Frye‘s fit with the Magic. We’ve looked at this extensively, and we all feel it’s a good fit, but what does Rfferty think?

That does it for Thursday’s edition of Orlando Magic Today. Remember to continue to check back with us at Presto in the Paint for the latest news, analysis and rumors regarding the Magic.
