Orlando Magic Today: Sacred Sunday

Happy Sunday, everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the USA vs Brazil friendly as much as I did last night. I have a few takeaways to share with you:

Anthony Davis is going to be a top five player in the league this season.

Derrick Rose looks like he could be up to his MVP ways again, even though he was gifted that award because we all know Dwight deserved it that year.

Stephen Curry is unreal. No one man should be able to shoot THAT well.

Kenneth Faried is going to be a key for the US team once they get to Spain at the end of the month.

Now… Onto some stories and hot takes for you guys to read!

First we check back in at HoopsHabit, this time with Jared Brownlee as he looks at why Aaron Gordon should be the centerpiece to the Magic’s rebuild. He also talks a little about Gordon’s comparison to Blake Griffin. PSA: Blake Griffin is good at basketball, and makes basketball fun to watch.

At OrlandoMagicDaily, our good friend Philip Rossman-Reich poses the question is Magic owner Rich DeVos a “winning owner?” The Magic have has many ups-and-downs with DeVos as owner, and it’s certainly something that is asked quite often.

This is a question Magic fans always seem like they need to be answering. Especially now that the Magic are at the bottom of the standings, there is wonder whether Rich DeVos will put what is necessary to get back to the top of the mountain and, eventually, win a championship.

The one thing no one can ever say about DeVos is that he is unwilling to spend money. The multi-billionaire Amway owner went all in on the Magic’s latest championship foray and went deep into the luxury tax. It had limited success as the team reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2010, but then floundered and buried itself with a bad trade in 2011.

Finally, over at BleacherReport, Josh Martin takes a look at all 30 teams and throws his opinion out as to what their starting lineups should be. For the Magic… Well, I disagree, slightly, but I guess I’ll let it slide.

That does it for today’s edition of Orlando Magic Today! Hope you all have a fantastic finish to the weekend, and enjoy a good day on Sunday, be that with the family, watching preseason football, baseball, golf or racing. Maybe a Breaking Bad marathon on AMC is in the cards? Whatever it may be, enjoy it and make sure to check back here tomorrow for Mailbag Monday’s and much, much more!
