It appears as though the curse has been lifted.
The White Sox snapped a scoreless innings streak at 34 Sunday, but that was about all they accomplished during an 8-1 loss to the last-place Los Angeles Angels, who completed a three-game sweep to open the second half of the 2016 season on a flat and disappointing note.
"I'm still trying to get stronger, but my body is feeling a lot better", Weaver said.
Morneau, 35, signed a one-year Major League deal with the Sox earlier this summer. Angels LHP Tyler Skaggs threw seven scoreless innings for Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday, walking none, allowing one hit and striking out 14. Instead, he struck out Frazier and Justin Morneau to end the game. Yunel Escobar began hitting a triple off the wall in right-center field. He threw 115 pitches, including 85 for strikes.
"I just try to sit back, have fun, come out here and do my job every day, and whatever happens, happens". Then after Kole Calhoun walked, Escobar scored when Mike Trout grounded out.
Right-hander James Shields (2-4) retired 16 of the final 18 batters he faced, permitted only one hit after the first inning, allowed only two hits and two walks and collected two strikeouts yet lost his second successive decision. If any of the talk is going to become a reality, Chicago will need to take advantage of their six-game road trip to Anaheim and Seattle.
"Having worked in the All-Star Game, I didn't necessarily ask [Sale] about it, but sometimes they can overthrow and let it go a little more than they would in a normal game", said Ventura of Sale, who threw nine pitches in San Diego, and Quintana, who threw 13.
"We're at a point where our guys felt he was ready to contribute", White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. However, Ventura isn't anxious that it will become a long-term problem.
"Obviously you work hard to get back here, and you appreciate any opportunity you get", Turner said. "But we all felt he had enough to get through that ninth inning".
Fulmer has only been a starter in the minors, but for now the White Sox plan to use him as a reliever. The 24-year-old Venezuelan catcher hadn't played for the White Sox since being recalled 11 days earlier.
NOTES: Chicago has failed to score a run in 23 consecutive innings entering Saturday's game.
White Sox: 3B Matt Davidson (broken foot) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Turner on the roster.
Jacob Turner will be called up from Triple-A Charlotte to start Sunday's game against the Angels. Shields is now 4-10 with a 5.42 ERA through 18 starts and opposing batters have been able to hit.293 against him in 101.1 innings.
