ACC extends deals with North Carolina sites after law change

The NCAA pulled its championship events out of North Carolina previous year after the state passed the controversial HB2 law, better known as the "bathroom bill".

Football: The Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game will return to Bank of America Stadium through the 2020 season.

Greensboro will host the first and second round of the 2019 and 2020 men's basketball tournament, according to the NCAA.

Following similar moves by the NCAA and National Basketball Association, the ACC had pulled the game from Charlotte in September over HB2, the recently-repealed state law that limited anti-discrimination protections for LGBT people.

Prior to Tuesday's announcement, the NCAA had said championships previously awarded to North Carolina for 2017-18 would remain in the state. "We value all of our partners in North Carolina and appreciate their support and cooperation".

The NCAA also announced it was returning all of its championship events to North Carolina in the wake of the repeal of HB2.

The ACC also pulled 10 neutral-site events from the state last fall, including the conference's football championship game, which was moved from Charlotte to Orlando.

"North Carolina's new law does nothing to guarantee that LGBT people will be protected from discrimination" said James Esseks, director of the ACLU's LGBT and HIV Project.

— The women's basketball tournament — held in Conway, South Carolina last season — returns to its longtime home in Greensboro through 2023.

Winston-Salem is getting the women's field hockey championship in 2019.

Rights groups criticized the NCAA for returning to North Carolina while its cities were still banned from passing anti-discrimination laws.

Women's Soccer: The semifinals and finals of the women's soccer tournament will be held at WakeMed Soccer Park in 2018.

"Working with our valued host institutions and conferences, as well as sports commissions and cities, to create a great atmosphere for student-athletes, coaches and fans with the men's and women's basketball tournaments is our goal every year", said Dan Gavitt, NCAA senior vice president of basketball. The 2018 ACC Baseball Championship is scheduled for May 22-27. Wintrust Arena, as well as the Moda Center, will be hosting the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship games for the first time.

— The women's golf championship will be in Greensboro through 2021.

The conference's women's golf championship will be held in April 2018 at the Ross Course of Greensboro's Sedgefield Country Club. Cary, N.C., will host the women's soccer College Cup in 2018 and 2020.
