Especially for fantasy NASCAR leagues, past winners Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano or AJ Allmendinger would all be good choices for this weekend's road course race at Watkins Glen International for the I LOVE NEW YORK 355 on Sunday.
The following drivers find themselves as at home at the Glen as a highlander in a, well, glen.
22 Shell/Pennzoil Ford to victory at Richmond earlier in the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season, he was relieved that his win earned a berth in his sixth straight post-season Chase playoffs for the NASCAR championship. He has one win with five top-5 finishes.
Retired drivers Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon have the most wins at Watkins Glen. Logano has the best average finish among all drivers in the last three races at Watkins Glen with a 3.0. Our goal is to win the race no matter what. Logano set the track qualifying record a year ago at 124.552 miles per hour.
So far in the 2017 season, Earnhardt has had four top-10 finishes - Texas Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Michigan International Speedway and Sonoma Raceway - with a season-best finish of fifth at the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 in Texas. He also finished second in 2015.
Unlike the preceding drivers, neither Truex nor Kenseth have won at the Glen. Yet. Kenseth has been consistently coming up short this season; on the one hand one wonders he has what it takes to get a win this season, but you gotta like his sportsbooks' chances on the other. Bowyer is 10th in points but he is on the outside looking in at the moment, 17 points behind Kenseth, 38 points behind McMurray and 39 points behind Elliott. Track: Watkins Glen International.
"It ain't like we're going to show up and just drive around them guys".
Logano is the two-time defending champion of this race. Under the new condensed weekend format implemented by NASCAR, qualifying is three hours before the race.
"I'm not going to race someone different due to their situation", Logano said.
Busch topped the Penske Racing duo of Logano and Keselowski and easily beat them on a restart with three laps to go for his 90th series win. "There are so many different ways of winning this race". "But I really look at Bristol (Aug. 19), we ran second there and I think we can do better than that".
Watkins Glen International was one of only two tracks now on the Xfinity series schedule at which Busch had not won.
