NC Police: Missing three-year-old girl is believed to be dead

What is clear is that the focus of the search has shifted.

"It is with deep sadness that I tell you our investigation leads us to believe 3-year-old Mariah Woods is deceased", Miller added.

Authorities say the man charged in the disappearance of a young North Carolina girl is the boyfriend of the child's mother.

Authorities said Saturday afternoon it was with "deep sadness" that they believed a missing 3-year-old North Carolina girl was dead.

Kimrey faces several charges, including concealing of death, obstruction of justice, second-degree burglary, felony larceny, and possession of stolen property.

She claimed he saw her at 1am and told her to go back to bed. Officials do not know where her body may be.

The statement did not say if Kimrey has a lawyer. On Friday morning, the search for 3-year-old Mariah intensified with a renewed effort that included hundreds of volunteers.

At 2.30am WCTI12.com announced that Earl Kimrey had been taken into custody and charged for concealing a death and the obstruction of justice.

Federal Bureau of Investigation officials said in a release Saturday that they have evidence to believe Mariah is deceased. ABC News reports that her mother reached out to the public in an emotion-filled plea Monday. Her body has not been found. "We have got to bring her home", Onslow County Sheriff Hans Miller said at a Saturday news conference.

Authorities said they have been using all means necessary to find Mariah including ground searches assist by a helicopter and K9 units - so far, officials have covered 100 acres. The search for Mariah entered a fifth day Friday.

The search was organized in connection with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.

At some point in the five hours between then, she said someone abducted the child - who has a walking impediment - from her bedroom.
