Trump "very happy" after Flynn plea: "There's been absolutely no collusion".

President Donald Trump on Saturday said he is not concerned that Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser, is cooperating with a special counselor's investigation after pleading guilty to making false statements to the FBI because there was "absolutely no collusion".

On Twitter, the president contends that Flynn's actions during the transition following the 2016 election "were lawful".

But a former Obama administration Justice Department official, Matthew Miller, said Mr Trump's tweeted response may have "admitted to obstruction of justice".

"Peter Strzok, as deputy head of counterintelligence at the FBI, was a key player in the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server to do government work as secretary of state, as well as the probe into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation in the 2016 election".

He was forced to resign after he was found to have misled vice president Mike Pence about his discussions with Kislyak. At this point, the only person who knows whether Brian Ross's report is accurate is Michael Flynn.

Trump told NBC News in May that "I was going to fire Comey knowing there was no good time to do it" and "I said to myself - I said, you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story". President Donald Trump and many of his supporters have sought to discredit the investigation, in part by claiming a close relationship between Mueller and fired FBI Director James Comey and by pointing to political contributions to Democratic candidates made by some lawyers on the team.

Shaub later added, "Tell us, @realDonaldTrump, did you know Flynn had lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation when Counsel to the President Don McGahn snubbed Yates as she tried to warn the White House Flynn had been compromised?"

Flynn also admitted that he spoke with another member of the transition team before he talked to Kislyak about US sanctions on December 29, court records say.

The investigation has dogged Mr. Trump's first year in office. He is a good guy.

It is also unclear how he would know that, if information about Russian contacts had not reached him, as he has been implying in his own defence.

The White House has disputed Mr Comey's testimony.

So far, four people have been charged as a result of Mueller's investigation. Strzok played a key role in the FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, the papers said. When asked if he was anxious what the former national security advisor will tell the special counsel, the president responded, "No, I'm not".
