Antonio Conte calls Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho a 'little man'

07 January 2018

Antonio Conte has slammed "little man" Jose Mourinho for digging up old match-fixing charges against the Chelsea manager in recent press statements.

The Italian was acquitted of any wrongdoing over the matter in 2016.

Mourinho had initially triggered this seismic row by referring on Thursday to "clown" behaviour on the touchline - comments widely believed to have been aimed at Conte and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

United and Chelsea are not due to meet again until February 25 at Old Trafford.

"I don't blame him. I will be ready, I don't think he is ready".

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has hit back at Jose Mourinho, branding the Manchester United manager a "little man" as the war of words between the pair continues to escalate.

Mourinho's reference to that controversy was just the latest twist in a verbal spat between the managers that seemed to have reached a climax earlier in the day when Conte was quizzed by reporters.

Conte then doubled down in his interview with the BBC, saying: "I think when there are these types of comments, and [with] the comment you try to offend a person, and you don't know the truth?"

"Before you make this type of comment, before to hurt another person, you must pay great attention".

"He is not my problem, I consider him a very little man with very low profile".

"If I saw a well-organised team normally when I spoke about another coach it is only to make compliments, otherwise I stay silent, but in this situation you must have respect and I think I do this". You show you are a little man. In the past he was a little man in many circumstances, is a little man in the present and for sure he will be a little man in the future.

Conte was more scathing about Mourinho's behavior, providing the example of Mourinho attending a news conference wearing a training top with the initials "CR" following Claudio Ranieri's firing by Leicester in February past year. Then when Ranieri was sacked [by Leicester City] he put on a shirt [with initials on it in support of] Ranieri. "This shows you are a fake".

"If you want to go to fight with me I am ready".

After Conte questionably called Mourinho "senile", Mourinho said on Friday: 'The only thing I want to say to Antonio Conte is that, yes, I made my mistakes in the past on the touchline. And then after two years you try to help this person, because maybe it's good for you, for your profile'.
