Lithium-ion batteries don't last forever and regular wear and tear will diminish its performance over time (usually after two years of regular use). Some mom-and-pop fix shops will replace an iPhone battery for less than $30 (roughly Rs. 1900).
To address the problem, Apple changed how iOS manages performance, basically trying to even out behaviors that result in requests for peak power.
If you have an iPhone 6, iPhone 6S, iPhone SE, your iOS was likely affected with the iOS 10.2.1 update. "We've now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future". And while Tonya's iPhone 6s, which is a year younger, still works, it has long suffered from the unexpected shutdowns.
It is to be noted here, Apple doesn't really want your battery to fail the health test in order to make you eligible for the battery replacement which is made cheaper now.
Get a battery replacement if there is a problem.
As a part of Apple's apology, the company will offer anyone with iPhone 6 or later a $50 discount on a battery replacement.
Apple sought to clarify its long-rumored battery problem and how to fix it in a December 28 message to concerned and outraged customers, acknowledging that "there's been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue".
To apologize for the issue, Apple reduced the cost of out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacements to only $29, from the original price of $79. You can also send your iPhone in for a new battery for $29 plus $6.95 shipping. We'd like to see iOS act more like macOS does on laptops, where it puts a "Service Battery" message in the menu bar's battery menu.
Apple also has announced it will issue an operating system update that lets users know more about the health of their phone's battery so they can check on their own if the battery is causing a problem. That hasn't been enough to appease customers who filed lawsuits over it - or fully satisfy some of the loyal Apple customers who fixed their battery problem prior to the latest offer by buying a new phone.
To get a new battery, log on to Apple's support site, and then select iPhone, then Battery, then Battery replacement. Like a jalopy after a Jiffy Lube, a three-year-old iPhone with a fresh battery will not only run longer, chances are it will also run faster.
There are a few ways that can tell you how your iPhone battery is performing so that you can go for that battery replacement to prevent the slowdown of your device.
MacRumors is reporting that Apple will accept an iPhone 6 or later for battery replacement regardless of whether the battery has failed the official diagnostic test. After that sign in with your Apple ID, if required. It's possible that's just a miscommunication between Apple Corporate and individual stores.
Now that you're armed with the info needed to measure capacity and even charge cycles, you've got to decide when to get that new battery.
