Gerrit Cole trade to the Houston Astros is 'imminent'

Per Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan, there is "no deal" in place for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole to be traded to the Houston Astros.

MLB Network's Jon Morosi was first to report that the teams have agreed to terms on a trade.

NY also has been linked in media reports to free agents Yu Darvish and Alex Cobb. He is 59-42 with a 3.50 ERA in 127 career starts.

Cole, who is under team control for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, is in his second year of arbitration eligibility.

Pirates right-hander Gerrit Cole delivers a pitch during the first inning against the St. Louis Cardinals on September 23, 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We're still awaiting word on what players Houston will send back to the Pirates in exchange. It's less clear how badly the Pirates need outfield prospects given the presence of Austin Meadows, Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco.

The Astros won the 2017 World Series in seven games over the Los Angeles Dodgers and boasted one of the best rotations in baseball. Cole completes a very strong rotation behind Justin Verlander and provides insurance should Dallas Keuchel and Lance McCullers struggle with injuries again next season.
