Cop, Suspect Dead After Disturbing 911 Call

Ryan Morton [VIDEO], a #police officer in Missouri, was shot dead Tuesday night after receiving the wrong address from dispatch.

Clinton is about 70 miles east of Kansas City.

The Clinton Fire Department issued a statement urging everyone to avoid the area - saying the shooter was barricaded in the home and adding, "Please understand the emotional side of this event for those involved and please refrain from posting on social media any information obtained by either radio traffic or by means of speculation".

The suspect was found dead shortly after midnight when members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol SWAT team entered the home. Police are investigating whether the gunshot came from police or was self-inflicted, reports ABC News. "At that point in time the suspect shot and killed one of the Clinton Police officers". However, authorities were later able to determine that the placed call did not originate from that location, but rather one in Windsor, about 15 miles away, Lowe said.

Lowe said, the injured officers were immediately rushed to a hospital for treatments, and it was later learned that they had sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Tammy Widger, 37, who lived at the home near S. Orchard and W. Ohio Sts., met the responding officers outside and told them nothing was going on.

"Officer Christopher Ryan Morton gave the #UltimateSacrifice" she wrote.

God bless every single police officer in the state of Missouri and around the country.

Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Collin Stosberg says the cause of the suspect's death is under investigation.

Waters had illegal gun possession and drug charges pending against him in Cass County when he died.

"It's hard to put into words what you go through when you have an officer killed in a line of duty", Lowe said.

Widger was arrested, police said, and was charged with possession of methamphetamines with the intent to deliver as well as keeping or maintaining a public nuisance, Henry County Prosecuting Attorney Richard Shields said, alleging that she had been delivering controlled substances at that location.

Officer Christopher Morton was fatally shot at a home in Clinton, Mo. on Tuesday.

Lowe said Morton had been with the Clinton Police Department "for a while". He returned to full-time duty last September, one month after another Clinton officer was shot and killed.

The alleged killer, Ian McCarthy, drove off, crashed his vehicle, and fled on foot before he was arrested two days later.

Prosecutors will seek the death penalty in Michael's shooting, the Associated Press reported.
