Dallas Cowboys to release WR Dez Bryant

The Dallas Cowboys released Dez Bryant on Friday, their top receiver over the past eight years. The Dallas Cowboys are expected to release wide receiver Dez Bryant.

This is also a chance for Bryant to prove that he still has the ability to play at an elite level beyond what he has over the last few seasons.

DallasCowboys.com reporter Mickey Spagnola reported that Bryant walked out of The Star and said "I'll see guys twice this year", alluding to the potential of Bryant signing with an NFC East rival of Dallas.

He was scheduled to count $16.5 million against the Cowboys' salary cap. The release clears about $8.5 million in cap space.

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey, San Diego Chargers offensive tackle Russell Okung and former Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley also said they wanted Bryant on their teams. We arrived at this crossroad collectively with input from several voices within the organisation.

The Packers certainly know how good Bryant can be when he's on.

Jones and Sanu put up 88 and 67 catches respectively a year ago, but Atlanta's third-leading wide receiver, Taylor Gabriel, had just 33 catches.

This is important because it's a side of Dez that often gets overshadowed. There are still receiver-hungry teams with more money than the Packers to spend, however. "He will always be a valued member of our family", Jones said.

Since 2014, Bryant has failed to reach 1,000 yards, 10 touchdowns, or even 80 catches. With Rob Gronkowski redefining the tight end position, with Julian Edelman being impossible to cover in the slot and outside, with Jordan Matthews now involved in the slot, and with Chris Hogan occasionally being invisible to opposing defenses, the Patriots are pretty well-stocked in terms of pass catchers.

And in case anyone was inclined to doubt that Bryant was serious about that, he reiterated the point on Twitter, then declared that his new beef with the Cowboys was "very personal". He was second in the National Football League with 11 drops last season, according to sportradar. Bryant is not worth letting one of those two defensive players walk for, especially with the production he has put up lately. Additionally, he's struggled to make a connection on and off the field with Dak Prescott since the latter took over the starting QB job from Tony Romo in 2016. Romo was released last offseason and retired.

Bryant himself later more or less confirmed the news with a tweet stating "let's start the process". Six-year journeyman Deonte Thompson was another addition.

Shortly after the draft, Bryant told reporters that Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland asked him if his mom was a prostitute and was eventually forced to apologize. "Shows you where team allegiances really are". "Wish you nothing but the best!"
