"They control the Gaza strip and everything that happens there goes through them".

"You must tell Hamas that violence is not the answer", he said.

"Haniyeh returned to Gaza, Hamas gave an order...and miraculously, this spontaneous protest by a public that could not handle the situation any more dissipated", Katz told Israel Radio.

According to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry, 62 people in total were killed in this week's riots.

Larger crowds have flocked to the border after prayers on Fridays.

However, he said, "people wear out and get fed up, and I am one of these people".

The Israel Defense Forces tweeted out that portion of Bardawil's interview with English subtitles.

"The Israeli army struck targets belonging to Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip, including terrorist infrastructure and weapons-making facilities", the military said.

At least 58 Palestinians were killed yesterday, spurring the propose investigating the IDF to determine if their actions violated worldwide law - a proposal Haley slammed as preposterous.

Eight-month-old Leila al-Ghandour died after inhaling tear gas during the major protests.

Countries have summoned and recalled ambassadors, the United Nations has issued condemnations and some have called for an investigation of Israel's actions. Shockingly, a Palestinian baby was one of the casualties in the east of Gaza City.

"We will also act through the United Nations and we have given our support to the United Nations secretary general in his call for an independent investigation in to this matter".

At Wednesday's ceremony, Morales said his country was bringing a message of "love, peace and fraternity" to Israel. "In fact, the record of several countries here today suggest that they would be less restrained".

"Rather, the violence comes from those who reject the existence of the state of Israel in any location", Haley said.

There was no immediate response from Egypt to Mr Katz's statements, which Hamas dismissed as false.
