Three GOP State Sens. Lost Primaries Tuesday in West Virginia

Trump tweets on Monday: "To the great people of West Virginia we have, together, a really great chance to keep making a big difference".

In the Indiana Senate GOP primary, businessman Mike Braun beat US Reps. Jenkins came in second, earning 40,131 votes, or 29.28 percent, followed by Blankenship, who tallied 27,406 votes, or 20 percent.

The rise of Braun and the tone of the Republican campaigns in all three states underscored the deep animosity toward Washington that has persisted in the GOP even after Trump's election.

That's why coming into the West Virginia election, I thought there was only one characterization of the race that was appropriate: We just didn't know who was going to win with real certainty. Messser introduced a resolution calling on Trump to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. But he spent more than $5 million of his own money on the race, allowing him to dwarf his opponents, GOP Reps. Sherrod Brown in the general election, was a key factor in his win.

Pittenger's loss surprised national and local Republicans alike, but early reactions to the three-term congressman's loss pointed to an "anti-establishment GOP vote that came out big tonight", said Brad Crone, a campaign consultant who's worked with Democrats and Republicans in the state. By itself, Donald Trump's signature legislative achievement remains the most unpopular tax cut in modern American history.

But Tuesday's turnout, where Republicans outvoted Democrats by almost two to one, doesn't bode well for Donnelly. Despite voting in favor of the White House's agenda 61 percent of the time, the president has targeted Manchin, the lone Democratic senator in a state Trump won by 42 percentage points in 2016 and remains extremely popular.

Donnelly, one of the most conservative Democratic senators, ran unopposed for renomination.

Morrisey will face incumbent Democrat Joe Manchin in November. The Cook Political Report has the contest as a "toss-up".

Businessman and outsider Don Blankenship, a little more than a year removed from prison, held a slight lead in some polls over West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey (R) and Representative Evan Jenkins (R). Problem is, Don Blankenship, now running for Senate, can't win the General Election in your State. No way! "Remember Alabama. Vote Rep. Jenkins or A.G. Morrisey!" If the 35-year-old Crooks wins against her Republican opponent in November, she will be the first Trump accuser to win elected office after Mr. Trump's ascendance to the presidency.

"The president's standing with independent voters is pretty poor, and whoever is running in November is going to need those independent voters".

Former chairman of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Richard Cordray won the Democratic nomination for governor in Ohio. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., against the Bernie Sanders-aligned group Our Revolution.

And in Ohio, Rep. Jim Renacci cruised to a victory that sets up a run against incumbent Democratic Sen.

"The Republican Party had a great night".

With their party out of power, Democratic voters so far have been supportive of mainstream candidates over those from the insurgent wing, and more lenient with their nominees in red states.

Moore was among a handful of extreme candidates in recent years who have won a Republican nomination - only to eventually lose their Senate elections.

Nearly half of the proposed cuts would come from two accounts within the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that White House officials said expired a year ago or are not expected to be drawn upon.
