The woman, identified as Shizuka Matsuki, 47, of Plantation, Florida, was last seen walking her dogs near a lake in the Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park in Davie, about 25 miles north of Miami, on Friday morning, the Davie Police Department said.
A man who claims to be a family friend said the victim's husband is in Chicago and is rushing to the scene. Dale Engle told the newspaper. A witness reportedly saw a gator attack a woman at Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park in Davie, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
"One of her dogs got bit by the gator", Engle said.
A witness told authorities he saw the woman walking two dogs and then noticed the dogs alone, barking near the water. Tina Gonzales, who lives in Davie, said she visited the park a year ago and a large gator swam up to where she and her son were fishing.
She is reported to have been married with a son in his 20s who lives in NY.
Officers told WSVN that they were investigating a report that she was walking her dogs near Southwest 52nd Street west of Floridas Turnpike when she was grabbed by an alligator.
Heather Porrata, who lives nearby, said that every Floridian knows to be on the lookout for gators near ponds, lakes, and streams.
Florida is teeming with more than 1 million gators, but only a dozen or so bites are recorded each year, according to statistics from the FWC.
Meanwhile, at least one news source reported that a witness had seen the woman being dragged into the 500,000-square-foot lake, although police could not confirm that they received that information from a witness.
Trappers have spotted an alligator in the pond that is about 12 feet long and were watching it, Gallinal said.
In a well-publicized attack in June 2016, a 2-year-old boy died after an alligator pulled him into a lagoon near a Walt Disney World hotel.
"The gator lurking in one of the lakes is well known to regulars". From 1948 to 2017, 401 unprovoked bite incidents have occurred in Florida with 24 of these proving fatal.
Matsuki's dogs were turned over to animal control for the time being.
