In an interview later with The Associated Press, Mr Giuliani rejected suggestions that such comments might sour the atmosphere ahead of next week's summit, saying that the North Korean leader must understand that the United States is in a position of strength.

While the North has kept mum on its summit preparations, Trump's and his Twitter messages are a rare "credible" source of relevant information. The Trump administration has scheduled and planned for the session in a span of three months.
Speaking to reporters as he welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to the White House, Trump said he and Abe would discuss North Korean issues and trade. "I appreciated it very much", Trump said. It's about the attitude. "It's about willingness to get things done, but I think I've been preparing for the summit for a long time, as has the other side".
However, Giuliani suggested similar hard-nosed tactics should be used with the Palestinian Authority, which has cut off ties with the U.S. to protest Trump's decision to recognise contested Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
The commander-in-chief also said the sit-down with Kim would likely be only the beginning of the process - and dismissed a suggestion that it would only amount to a photo-op.
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., tweeted his alarm. The severe sanctions, coupled with support from China in cutting off North Korea, helped bring Mr. Kim to the negotiating table.
In Korea, senior diplomats of the North and the USA have negotiated what will be on the table. "I think it would be well received", Trump said in answer to a question on inviting Kim to Washington. "I believe there's a potential to make a deal. It would be wonderful if it were".
According to a report from the Daily Beast, two of Trump's administration official said that the president is considering inviting the North Korean leader to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla.
Trump says the goal for the summit is denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.
The US has stressed that it is seeking complete and verifiable denuclearisation of North Korea, but a week ahead of the summit, questions remain about whether Kim is truly committed to achieving that aim. The sanctions are extraordinarily powerful. "But that may happen".
Trump, once again complained that past presidents failed to deal successfully with the North Korea problem. "Today with President Trump, our discussion was focused on issue of North Korea".
Trump predicted "great success" in the talks with Kim.
"We would certainly like to see normalisation".
