Houston Rockets Determined To Sign Carmelo Anthony

That duo served as two of the Rockets' best defenders, with the ability to match up with guards and forwards in the team's switch-heavy scheme.

They've already lost two of their top eight scorers, including a starter in Ariza, so they can't be choosy over who they sign if they want to improve upon their team-record 65 victories last season.

Tim MacMahon of ESPN reported an update on the negotiations between the Rockets and Capela, who's a restricted free agent. Wojnarowski added Carmelo is "determined" to sign with Houston once he hits free agency.

In order to lessen their luxury tax burden, the Thunder are expected to cut ties with Anthony this summer after just one season.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets "plan to ramp up a pursuit of Carmelo Anthony", after free agent forward Luc Mbah a Moute agreed to a one-year, $4.3 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, and Trevor Ariza reached a one-year $15 million deal with the Phoenix Suns.

Wojnarowski reports that the Thunder could stretch Anthony's contract out within the next 7-10 days if a trade doesn't materialize.

The Rockets also have similar vehicles to sign Anthony.

Anthony opted into the final year of his near $28m deal last month, contributing to a dangerously-inflated payroll that now sits at around $310m in OKC.

James's Los Angeles Lakers could also offer Anthony a possible way out of Oklahoma while remaining Banana Boat buddy Wade would also relish the chance to play alongside the former Denver Nugget in South Beach.

The 34-year-old is coming off his worst season in the National Basketball Association, as he posted career lows in scoring average and field goal percentage last season.

Anthony expressed to the Thunder at the end of the team's playoff run he would not accept a bench role.
