Reliance announces Jio GigaFiber across 1100 Indian cities

"Under this offer, by exchanging your old feature phone, you can get a brand new JioPhone for an effective entry price of just Rs 501", Ambani said.

If we think the company is only limited to offer low-priced 4G and feature phones then we must go through the announcements made by the country's richest personality at Reliance annual general meeting 2018. The rollout of Jio Giga Fiber will happen in 1100 cities simultaneously across the country.

In a major announcement today, Mukesh Ambani launched the latest version of Reliance Jio's feature phone JioPhone, called as JioPhone 2. It also comes with built-in Google Assistant for using voice commands in English and Hindi.

According to him, optical fibre-based fixed line broadband is the future and the company has already invested over Rs 250,000 crores for creating state-of-the-art digital infrastructure to provide mobile and broadband connectivity across the country with the largest fiber footprint.

The next announcement is JioPhone 2.

Anticipating another disruptive set of services from Jio, market leader Airtel has also set in motion the revamp its existing wired broadband connection solutions.

Reliance shares have surged almost 83 percent since September 1, 2016, the day its telecom service was launched. The three most popular apps YouTube, WhatsApp and Facebook will be available to all the JioPhone users from 15th August, he said.

Reliance's new fibre network, JioGigaFiber, will be rolled out in 1,100 cities and will potentially connect 50 million homes, enabling consumers to use smart solutions such as real-time surveillance and connected devices, Ambani said, without giving any pricing plans. Reliance states that it will prioritize the roll-out of Jio GigaFiber in localities based on the interest the company receives from registrations. While detailed battery life estimates are not available for the JioPhone 2, the JioPhone is claimed to offer up to 12 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time. He said, "Jio has enabled Reliance to strategically reinvent itself as a Technology Platform Company".

"We have more than 25 million Jio Phone users in India".

Starting on August 15, we have another exciting offer for common Indians.

The JioGigaFiber, as the name suggests, will have Gigabit internet at 1 gigabit per second speed.

Reliance sparked a price war and a rush to consolidation in India's telecoms market when it launched its Jio network in September 2016 by offering vastly cheaper tariffs and data plans.
