"There is a new way, a new process", said the Spaniard several times on Friday at the press conference held to preview Sunday's meeting at the Emirates with Manchester City, Emery's first Premier League match in charge of Arsenal and the club's first for 22 years under a manager other than Arsène Wenger. Arsenal also signed veteran defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner - who is the Switzerland captain - and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, who are also seen as strong personalities both on and off the pitch.

"I want the team to show that we are together with our supporters, and I want the team to show everybody their best performance".

Danny Welbeck was a player in demand in the summer transfer window, with Everton, Newcastle United and Southampton among the clubs reported to be interested in the Arsenal forward.

"I am 46, he is 47 and he started his career as a player, bigger than me", he said at his pre-match presser.

Aaron Ramsey is a doubt which means Granit Xhaka is likely to start alongside new boy Lucas Torreira at the base of midfield.

Arsenal have reportedly told Danny Welbeck that he would be surplus to requirements this season under Unai Emery and have instructed his agent to find a new club for the forward.

"We need two things: quality players, which we have, and then organisation".

Emery is set to keep Laurent Koscielny as his captain. I repeat: "organised, then play". His statistics are better than me.

Emery also dodged a question about whether Wenger has sent him any messages at all going into the season, saying only that he wants to build on the Frenchman's legacy.

"We only have three players: Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina, and Joel Campbell, with the possibility to leave".

"For that, we are working this week and preparing for this game and preparing for the opposition against City as a collective and as individual players".
