Two dead, multiple wounded in US yoga studio shooting

The women, identified as Ms Nancy Van Vessem, 61, and Ms Maura Binkley, 21, were shot and killed on Friday (Nov 2) afternoon when Scott Beierle, 40, opened fire at the Hot Yoga studio at an upscale shopping centre in Florida's capital, Tallahassee, the city's police department said in a statement.

Late Friday night, Gillum spoke to reporters near the scene of the shooting to say that he had visited in the hospital two people who were shot at the yoga studio.

Beierle also mentioned Elliot Rodger in one of his videos, BuzzFeed reported.

ABP News maintains the repute of being a people's channel.

In one video, the man said promiscuous women deserved to be crucified and he suggested putting up land mines to keep people from crossing into the USA from Mexico.

The gunman appeared to have acted alone and there was no immediate threat to the Tallahassee community, Mr DeLeo said.

"She was an outstanding physician with a passion for access to health care", said Pam Irwin, the executive director of Capital Medical Society, a Tallahassee-based professional organization for physicians, of which Van Vessem was a member.

Charges were dismissed for both of Beierle's university arrests, but he agreed to a plea deal after a final arrest by Tallahassee police in 2016.

A person is transported from the scene of a shooting in Tallahassee, Fla.

"As we process the gut-wrenching act of violence that took place this evening in a place of peace in our community, we hold in our hearts everyone who is affected and lift them up in love", officials tweeted from the city's verified account. Rodger killed six people in a 2014 mass shooting in California and is hailed as a hero by violent "incels".

He had been in the military and was a graduate of nearby Florida State University, but was living in Deltona, a town in central Florida east of Orlando. He then fatally shot himself inside the studio.

Online records show Binkley was from Atlanta.

Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said some in the studio showed courage and tried to stop him. When she said no, court documents say he grabbed her buttocks and left.

"Our Capital Health Plan family is deeply shocked and saddened about the tragic loss of our beloved friend and colleague, Dr. Nancy Van Vessem, among the other victims of this bad incident", CHP said in a statement. According to the Associated Press, Scott Beierle, the assailant in Friday's shooting, was charged by police with battery in 2012 for grabbing women's buttocks in a campus dining hall at Florida State University.

A woman who filed a police report against Beierle told The AP she's never forgotten how "creepy" he was.

Van Vessem was a faculty member of FSU's medical school and Binkley was a student at the university, Tallahassee station WCTV reported.

"They said that he came in and he had a black bag and he pulled it out and as [the gunman] went to go load it, all the yoga studio, the instructor and everybody started pounding on the windows and on the walls to let people know", Hutchinson said.

"Made one date, didn't show up", he said of one woman, the newspaper said.
