"A lot of people in that room that are HIV positive didn't see those beginning times when we were losing all of these people, so they don't have the same perspective that we do today". UNAIDS estimates that 9.4 million, or 25%, of people living with HIV do not know their status - a key barrier to scaling-up HIV treatment and reducing new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths.

More than 30,000,000 people are living with HIV, but only about 40% of them know they have the disease. World Health Organization first recommended HIV self-testing in December 2016.

HIV treatment can reduce viruses in the blood (also known as viral load) and other bodily fluids to undetectable levels. In addition, with prevention therapy, no one needs to get infected.

The original buyers' groups, made famous in the film "Dallas Buyers Club", were set up in the 1980s to import experimental drugs not approved by USA authorities when AIDS treatments were in their infancy and the disease was a death sentence for many. Or, if you prefer to remain anonymous, you can get tested at one of the anonymous HIV testing clinics in Prince Albert, Regina, or Saskatoon.

More than 101,000 people are living with HIV in the UK. HIV infection is often diagnosed through rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), which detect the presence or absence of HIV antibodies. This milestone was achieved in an HIV testing campaign being done by ADPP Mozambique through HOPE Maputo project.

US Vice President Mike Pence has said that President Donald Trump will soon sign a legislation to extend an HIV/AIDS aid programme that started 15 years ago.
