"I will do everything in my power to push him through the Senate Judiciary Committee and onto the floor of the Senate for eventual confirmation as soon as possible", Graham said, adding, "Well done Mr. President".
"Those I know who work with her remark frequently that she is more open than most Trump appointees to listening to and working with career diplomats", said Brett Bruen, who served as White House director of global engagement under former president Barack Obama.
"I'm sure she will perform well at her hearing and look forward to supporting her nomination".
According to reporting by CNN's Kaitlan Collins, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has told aides he wants the position downgraded from Cabinet level, which is in line with previous Republican administrations.
He said that Haley has done a great job in the role, and he believes Nauert is "a very good choice in the same tradition".
Nauert thanked Trump and said she was humbled at being chosen.
The announcement comes hours after a resolution championed by Haley condemning the Hamas terror group failed to pass in the General Assembly. Yet she faced some criticism for a tourist-like Instagram post from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on a trip that was meant to focus on the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. If her much more recent experience at the State Department provides such rich fodder for critics, it portends a hard confirmation process ahead. But without being a member of the Cabinet, she wouldn't have the same independence that Haley has enjoyed. Nauert was then appointed acting undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs and was for a time the highest-ranking woman and fourth highest-ranking official in the building.
If Nauert wins Senate confirmation, she will face a broad agenda at the United Nations topped by the need to maintain global sanctions on North Korea.
Her expected appointment was reported by Bloomberg News and confirmed by The Post on Thursday.
Nonetheless, during her two-year stint, Haley became a darling of the Trump administration and the pro-Israel community for her vociferous defense of the Jewish state at the United Nations, a body often seen as hostile to Israel.
In this file photo taken on November 30, 2017 State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert speaks during a briefing at the State Department in Washington, DC. In a speech in Brussels this week, Pompeo made his doubts about the organization clear, asking, "Does it continue to serve its mission faithfully?" He too was a former USA ambassador to the United Nations - and caught Trump´s eye as a commentator on Fox News.
Haley is the first Indian-American to ever appointed to a Cabinet position in any USA presidential administration.
