"Because of the government shutdown, some of our scheduled government speakers at CES 2019 have alerted us that they must cancel their travel to the show", Gary Shapiro, head of the Consumer Technology Association, wrote in a statement.

While Apple isn't formally attending the world's biggest trade show, it has taken out a massive billboard covering the side of a hotel that overlooks the Las Vegas Convention Center where its rivals are expected to have a massive presence, according to CNBC. It simply says "what happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone" and is clearly a play on words.

With a minimal, white-text-on-black design, the ad features text prominently reading "What happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone", alongside an outline of Apple's smartphone.

Google, which operates Android, exposed the private details of 52 million users of its flop social media site Google+ in November, while last month Amazon sent 1,700 Alexa voice recordings to the wrong user following a GDPR data request.

The hardware firm behind the sex toy is called Lora Dicarlo, and its founder Lora Haddock issued a strong rebuke of CES and its leadership on Tuesday regarding their decision to take back the awarding of the honor, pointing to it as evidence of the ongoing issue of gender-bias in tech.
