Unai Emery: Top four difficult for Arsenal

He was the subject of a lot of hype after he made three appearances in friendlies for Ireland, but he is yet to play a competitive match.

The Hammers beat Arsenal 1-0 thanks to a Declan Rice goal and Arnautovic, who was subbed off in the second half, first clapped and then waved goodbye to the fans in what looked like a message of thanks to the supporters. Sometimes he is helping us, at other moments not helping us because of injury or because maybe the match is not for him'.

There was no place in the Arsenal squad for Mesut Ozil (Adam Davy/PA).

"If we want to be up there, we have to win".

"We continue working with every player because they are all important, but today the decision was to come with these players". The 19-year-old Rice placed the ball into the top of the net after being set up by Samir Nasri on the former Arsenal midfielder's league debut for West Ham.

It came at the end of a week when the Austrian pushed - through his brother - to be sold to a Chinese club and West Ham insisted he was not for sale.

According to Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole, West Ham are bracing themselves for Arnautovic's seemingly inevitable departure and are already lining up a host of potential replacements for the remainder of the January transfer window.

"We'll see what happens in the next days", Pellegrini told Sky Sports.

Marko Arnautovic salutes the crowd as he is substituted against Arsenal (Yui Mok/PA). I think he's doing the right thing by taking his time and thinking about the situation but I believe, no matter which side he picks he's going to be playing for either team.

Earlier in the season, Ozil's absence at home against West Ham was put down to illness.

He is yet to decide whether to represent England or the Republic of Ireland at global level, but Pellegrini is sure that whichever nation he opts to play for will benefit.
