Chicago police looking for source of leaks in Smollett case

Smollett, 36, was accused of orchestrating his own attack, which was initially being deemed a potential hate crime by the Chicago Police Department.

The Chicago PD says there's been a ton of "inaccurate" information surfacing in the media surrounding Smollett's case and now, they're trying to crack down on who the culprit is. "These types of investigations are fairly common so that we can determine if we have any integrity issues for future cases".

The influx of information that leaked to the media relating to Jussie Smollett's case has prompted officials to look into where their "vulnerabilities" lie.

Chicago PD tells us its Chief of Detectives opened the investigation out of concerns the force was leaking like a sieve.

The workers were terminated for gaining access to the actor's medical chart when he visited the hospital's emergency room.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the investigation began after Smollett was charged with felony disorderly conduct last month.

In January, Smollett told police that he was attacked by two masked men as he was walking home from a sandwich shop in the early morning on Jan. 29.

Smollett maintains he is innocent and claims he was attacked by homophobic, racist assailants who shouted: 'This is MAGA country!' while beating him, putting a noose around his neck and pouring bleach on him.

"Until somebody can show me some proof otherwise, I'm going with him", Queen told Yahoo News on their series, "Through Her Eyes". "The guy I've seen has always been someone who cares about people, who cares about others, and who's very kind and who's always been cool and sweet", Latifah, 48, said on Yahoo News' Through Her Eyes. The actor was then released after he posted $10,000 of his $100,000 bond.

The Superintendent has batted away Smollett's claim that a $3,500 check for the brothers he allegedly paid to attack him was for personal training and said there was surveillance footage, physical evidence and testimony that proves it was a hoax that is yet to be presented.

The actor continues to maintain that he is innocent.
