Google to launch all-new Pixel 3 successor next month

We have no idea why Google is linking the Avengers movie with the launch of both phones unless they mean to tell us the "a" in the names of the phones (Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3a XL) is short for Avengers.

A new teaser on the Made By Google website suggests that the Pixel 3a midmarket handset will launch on May 7. The bigger Pixel 3a XL codenamed Bonito could have a price of CAD $799 or $600. Even Google leaked some information earlier this month when it mistakenly posted to its Google Store information about a Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL.

Since Google would detail Android Q at during its I/O developer conference, the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL phones are likely to support the new Android experience out-of-the-box.

The Pixel 3a line will supposedly retain the camera performance of the company's flagship Pixel 3 12MP camera but will make sacrifices in the processing power, screen resolution, and build (plastic backing as opposed to glass).

Defeating Thanos, meanwhile, will take more than Pixel 3a phones. According to some reports, Google is planning a new "purple" or "iris" color for the Pixel 3a lineup.

Should T-Mobile jump into Pixel 3 sales, you have to wonder if that is a sign of good things to come for the Pixel 4 later this year. Others are saying it has something to do with the Google Assistant feature. The promo includes a video that highlights key Pixel 3 features in the context of Avengers, and the page itself heavily features the colour purple. The ad will likely air in the run-up to the film premiering on April. 26.
